โA sacred temple inspired by a divine vision of the celestial horse Balaha.โ
Tachogang, also known as Tachog Lhakhang, translates to
โTemple of the Hill of the Excellent Horse.โ This revered temple was founded by the
legendary Tibetan saint and engineer Thangtong Gyalpo (1385โ1464).
According to legend, while meditating at this very site, he envisioned the celestial horse
Balahaโan emanation of the compassionate deity Chenrezig Avalokiteshvaraโwhich
led to the establishment of this spiritual sanctuary.
Buddha Dordenma Statue

Perched atop a hill overlooking the Thimphu valley, the
Buddha Dordenma Statue is one of the largest sitting Buddha statues
in the world. Towering at 54 meters, the golden structure is both
a spiritual icon and an architectural marvel.
Construction: A Marvel of Engineering
Constructed piece by piece in China and later assembled in Bhutan,
the statue is made of bronze and gilded in gold. Inside, it houses
over 125,000 smaller Buddha statues, ranging from 10โ12 inches in

Paro Taktsang The Tiger's Nest
Taktsang Palphug Monastery, more famously known as Paro Taktsang or the โTigerโs Nest,โ is a sacred Buddhist temple complex dramatically perched on a cliff at 3,120 meters above sea level in the upper Paro Valley, Bhutan.
The picturesque Paro Valley is often considered the heart of Bhutan โ it is home to the countryโs only international airport and serves as the gateway for most travelers.

Punakha Dzong
Regarded as the most beautiful dzong in Bhutan, Punakha Dzong stands majestically at the confluence of the Mo Chhu (Mother River) and Pho Chhu (Father River). In spring, when the lilac-hued jacaranda trees bloom, their blossoms drape the towering whitewashed walls in vibrant color, adding to the dzongโs breathtaking charm.
Built in 1637โ1638, Punakha Dzong was the second dzong constructed in Bhutan and served as the capital and seat of government until the mid-1950s. It is also of immense historical importance as the site where all of Bhutanโs kings have been crowned. To this day, it remains the winter residence of the central monastic body (Dratshang), led by the Je Khenpo, Bhutanโs Chief Abbot.

The dzongโs location was foretold by Guru Rinpoche, who prophesied that a person named Namgyal would build a fortress at a hill resembling an elephant. When Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of Bhutan, arrived in Punakha, he chose the tip of the elephantโs trunkโthe very spot where the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu rivers meetโas the foundation of Punakha Dzong.

The fertility blessing is performed by the presiding lama, who taps visitors gently on the head with a 10-inch wooden and ivory phallus, followed by the bow and arrow once used by Drukpa Kunley, the Divine Madman.
