WELCOME TRAVELS

Every Journey Tells a Story

Why Travel with WELCOME TRAVELS?

โœจ Personalized Guidance & Flexible Itineraries

Always stay in touch with your guide. Whether you walk fast, prefer a slower pace, or want to swap places on your itinerary, just share your preferences. Bhutan is full of unexpected surprises, so flexibility is key.

๐ŸŒ Travel Like a Local, Not a Tourist

Longer itineraries give you more options. Instead of visiting another monastery, you might choose a museum or a nature hike. Use your itinerary as a guide, not a strict plan.

๐ŸŽฏ A Journey Just for You

Your trip is completely private. You wonโ€™t be grouped with other travelers, so you can enjoy the flexibility and focus of a personalized experience.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Weโ€™re Always a Click Away

Your dedicated travel coordinator is available before and during your trip for a seamless, stress-free experience.

๐Ÿ‘˜ Traditional Dress: What to Know

Bhutanese traditional attire is beautiful and can be purchased locally. Wearing it at Dzongs requires ceremonial scarves and long socks for men.

led to the establishment of this spiritual sanctuary.

Perched at an altitude of 3,100 meters, Dochula Pass is one of Bhutanโ€™s most scenic and spiritually significant landmarks, located on the road between Thimphu and Punakha. The pass offers sweeping views of the snow-clad Himalayas, including the mighty Gangkar Puensum, the worldโ€™s highest unclimbed mountain.
Dochula is more than just a viewpointโ€”it is a place where history, spirituality, and natural beauty converge. The pass commemorates the bravery of Bhutanโ€™s fourth king, His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, and the Bhutanese soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 2003 military operations against Assamese insurgents. Following the victory, the King returned to Thimphu on 28 December 2003, leaving behind a legacy of courage and national pride.

At the heart of Dochula Pass stand the 108 memorial chortens, known as the Druk Wangyal Chortens, built under the initiative of Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck. These chortens are a profound tribute to the fallen soldiers and symbolize peace, harmony, and resilience.
Arranged in three concentric layers, the chortens create a striking visual composition against the backdrop of pristine mountains:

                                Paro Taktsang The Tiger's Nest

Taktsang Palphug Monastery, more famously known as Paro Taktsang or the โ€œTigerโ€™s Nest,โ€ is a sacred Buddhist temple complex dramatically perched on a cliff at 3,120 meters above sea level in the upper Paro Valley, Bhutan.
The picturesque Paro Valley is often considered the heart of Bhutan โ€” it is home to the countryโ€™s only international airport and serves as the gateway for most travelers.
Paro Taktsang is not only one of Bhutanโ€™s most iconic landmarks but also a profound spiritual destination. Its unique cliffside setting, surrounded by towering mountains and emerald-green valleys, makes visiting the monastery an unforgettable experience.
The monasteryโ€™s most striking feature is its remote and isolated location, accessible only by steep, winding mountain trails. While the challenging hike adds to the adventure, it also enhances the sense of serenity and sacredness that the site embodies.
Despite the effort required to reach it, the reward is immense: breathtaking views, spiritual ambiance, and the chance to stand at one of the most revered cultural icons of Bhutan.

                                Punakha Dzong

Regarded as the most beautiful dzong in Bhutan, Punakha Dzong stands majestically at the confluence of the Mo Chhu (Mother River) and Pho Chhu (Father River). In spring, when the lilac-hued jacaranda trees bloom, their blossoms drape the towering whitewashed walls in vibrant color, adding to the dzongโ€™s breathtaking charm.
Built in 1637โ€“1638, Punakha Dzong was the second dzong constructed in Bhutan and served as the capital and seat of government until the mid-1950s. It is also of immense historical importance as the site where all of Bhutanโ€™s kings have been crowned. To this day, it remains the winter residence of the central monastic body (Dratshang), led by the Je Khenpo, Bhutanโ€™s Chief Abbot.
                                A Sacred Prophecy
The dzongโ€™s location was foretold by Guru Rinpoche, who prophesied that a person named Namgyal would build a fortress at a hill resembling an elephant. When Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of Bhutan, arrived in Punakha, he chose the tip of the elephantโ€™s trunkโ€”the very spot where the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu rivers meetโ€”as the foundation of Punakha Dzong.
                                Why Visit Punakha Dzong?
โ€ข Architectural marvel: One of Bhutanโ€™s grandest dzongs, blending fortress-like strength with ornate artistry.
โ€ข Historic seat of power: Once the capital and the coronation site of Bhutanโ€™s monarchs.
โ€ข Spiritual significance: Still functions as the winter home of the monastic order.
โ€ข Scenic beauty: Stunning riverside location, enhanced in spring by blossoming jacarandas.
Visiting Punakha Dzong is to step into Bhutanโ€™s living historyโ€”a sacred space where spirituality, tradition, and natural beauty converge.

                                Punakha suspension bridge

The Punakha Suspension Bridge is a stunning landmark located near the iconic Punakha Dzong, spanning the Phochu River. Easily accessible on foot from the dzong, the bridge connects several nearby villages, including Shengana, Samdingkha, Wangkha, and even provides a link to the Palace of the Wangchuk Kings.
At roughly 520 feet (160 meters) long, it is one of Bhutanโ€™s longest suspension bridges, offering breathtaking views of the Phochu and Mochu rivers as they converge, and even a striking perspective of the backside of Punakha Dzong.
The bridge is not just functional but also culturally significant, adorned with vibrant prayer flags fluttering in the wind. Hikers and village-tour enthusiasts often use it as a pathway to explore the surrounding areas.
For nature lovers and photographers, the suspension bridge provides a perfect vantage point for birdwatching and capturing the beauty of Bhutanโ€™s rivers and valleys. And for a few adventurous souls, the gentle swaying of the bridge adds a little thrill to the experience, making it a memorable stop on any Punakha itinerary.

                                Chimi Lhakhang

Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility, is one of Bhutanโ€™s most revered pilgrimage sites, especially for couples longing to have children. People from across the worldโ€”Japan, Europe, the United States, and beyondโ€”have journeyed here to seek its unique blessings.
The fertility blessing is performed by the presiding lama, who taps visitors gently on the head with a 10-inch wooden and ivory phallus, followed by the bow and arrow once used by Drukpa Kunley, the Divine Madman.
                                A Temple of Miracles
โ€ข Fertility blessings: Couples visit in hopes of conceiving, and countless success stories are attributed to this sacred ritual.
โ€ข Chimi Lhakhang babies: Children born after blessings here are often brought back to the temple within their first six years. Many are named Kinley (meaning kind-hearted) or Chime (meaning no dog) in honor of the templeโ€™s legacy.
โ€ข Child naming tradition: Bhutanese families also visit to receive a childโ€™s name. Parents draw bamboo slips placed on the altar, each inscribed with auspicious names.
                                Stories of Gratitude
Over the years, the temple has received photos and heartfelt letters from grateful parents across the globe who conceived after their pilgrimage. These stories, along with pictures of newborns, are lovingly compiled into a picture book displayed inside the temple, serving as living testimony to its spiritual power.
Visiting Chimi Lhakhang is not just about seeking blessingsโ€”it is about experiencing the deep faith, hope, and joy that connect people from every corner of the world through Bhutanโ€™s spiritual traditions.

A trip to Bhutan isn't complete without indulging in a traditional hot stone bath, a perfect blend of relaxation and wellness after exploring the kingdom's wonders. ๐ŸŒ„
What is a Hot Stone Bath? ๐Ÿ“–
This unique Bhutanese ritual uses fresh river water infused with Artemisia leaves ๐ŸŒฟ for medicinal benefits. River stones are roasted over fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ until glowing red and added to a wooden tub via a chamber, releasing minerals into the water for healing properties.
                                        The Process Step-by-Step ๐Ÿ›
Preparation: River water mixed with Artemisia leaves to create medicinal "Menchu."
Heating: Stones heated to red-hot and placed in a connected chamber (no direct contact to avoid burns).
Infusion: Heat and minerals from stones infuse the bath, creating a soothing, therapeutic soak.
Duration & Enhancements: Relax for 1-2 hours โณ, sipping a hot beverage. Follow with a salt scrub ๐Ÿง‚ to exfoliate and an oil massage for muscle relief.
                                        Health Benefits & Tips ๐Ÿ’ก
